Summary: Was an okay receiver for a while, nothing special, hard to configure and get everything "just right" I know it's discontinued now, but wanted to post this regardless... I was just hit by the HDMI/Network board issue - just google for "TX-NR609 No Audio No Network" Talking to the people at onkyo and via their website recall page, my specific receiver is not one of the affected; however, my lack of audio and all the other symptoms which are EXACTLY THE SAME beg to...
broke just after two years no video using hdmi passthrough

Summary: Well the received worked well for the first two years. Then suddenly the picture went out on the tv. It appears the problem is the hdmi passthrough circuitry goes bad. Unfortunately now that I have researched this problem I have found this is a common problem with Onkyo Receivers. If you like throwing away money then I highly recommend this receiver.
Summary: ...and it never worked that great to begin with. There was a up to a 100ms lag that needed to be adjusted for HDMI inputs (which is fine for video, but not videogames). I then bought a Denon at about the same price and the sound quality and user interface are both much better then the Onkyo. I would not buy Onkyo again. From what I read, the repair is around 300 dollars, so I guess this goes in the expensive garbage pile.
Summary: Well, after 25 months, my sound went out just like the others. I have ordered the following capacitors to replace them myself for the HDMI board. This isn't acceptable and I won't be purchasing another Onkyo product anytime soon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008DFA798/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 04/14/2014 - Onkyo has agreed to a "one-time" repair even though the unit is out of warranty.
Pretty good for 2 years, then dead like many others I read about

31 March 2014
Summary: Purchased December 2011. Its now March 31, 2014 and its dead. The HDMI out is having issues, but from reading the forums, its pretty common for the NR606 and 609 to fail right after 2 years. It started with the HDMI going out for a few minutes. I'd turn it off and on and most of the time it would come back - terrible for watching a movie. This week though it just failed altogether. Sound was fine but no picture. Nothing could get it to work. It's just dead.
Summary: I bought this to replace a Onkyo 707 that died right after the warranty ran out...they did agree to fix it and I was lucky enough to have a local repair center...3 trips to the repair center, gone for weeks at a time and never worked correctly again, they finally just offered me a "deal" on an open box item from their website. I always considered Onkyo a premium brand so I assumed they had their issues figured out with 707s and corrected with the x09 series..
Summary: Purchased this receiver in late 2011, and now, roughly 2.5 years later, it has failed - no sound. A quick search shows this is a common and KNOWN issue with this model by the manufacturer. We were very happy with the unit... until it failed! Awaiting resolution from Onkyo customer service. Will post an update if/when the issue is resolved.
Summary: The unit is just over the 2 year warranty. It's our central home theater unit and has performed beautifully until now. We loved it. From what I'm reading, it sounds like I'm having the same HDMI card failure many others have had. I'm beginning to work with Onkyo service now. Stay tuned...
Summary: From the first week I bought this unit, I've had nothing but trouble. The unit was placed in an open area with no obstruction of vents, yet the unit constantly overheated. When it overheats, the video cuts out. Then, it's just a waiting game for when it decides it wants to work again. This happened about 20% of the time I used the receiver. Except during the summer. During the summer, I can just forget about using it unless I pointed a fan right at the receiver.
