  • Summary: I will not buy Onkyo receivers ever again.
  • Pros: Worked well most of the time. No issues for 2.5 years.

Beware!

Christopher A. Tavuchis, Amazon
22 March 2015
  • Summary: I had a Pioneer for nearly 20 years and it finally succumbed to too many F1 races and heavy metal. I had high hopes for this integrated piece of sophisticated technology...only to be disappointed...the thing hasn't even lasted a year.

Repair program

Paul H., Newegg
8 December 2014
  • Pros: Apparently Onkyo has a free repair program. See http://www.onkyousa.com/Support/service_info.php for more information. I'm trying it now
  • Cons: Shouldn't have failed so early.

This series has HDMI problems in my experience.

John Tebbutt, Amazon
18 November 2014
  • Summary: Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice... This was the second Onkyo unit I have owned in which the HDMI circuit burned out pretty soon after purchase. Very annoying. The sound quality was excellent, and still is for everything except HDMI. My advice: buy a comparably price Yamaha.

Short lifespan, bad customer service

Joshua E., Newegg
8 July 2014
  • Pros: Easy setup, plenty of options, good sound, performed perfectly for about a year.
  • Cons: Only worked for about a year. Video signal comes through still, but I am no longer getting sound through any of the channels regardless what input it's set on. Not even the FM input is working. All speakers still work. I tried to install the firmware update via USB, but the receiver is not readin...

Good sound, lots of HDMI inputs, but this thing is really quite basic

David L, Amazon
25 May 2013
  • Summary: Pros: - Lots of HDMI inputs - Good (but not great) sound - Access to many different internet radio services, more than any other line of receiver I could find. - Inexpensive, compared to other receivers. Cons: - A BORING user interface. Made me want to sleep.

Nice at first

Douglas G., Newegg
23 January 2013
  • Summary: It is a good receiver - perhaps I just received a copy that had a defect from the point of assembly. I will try one more time if the RMA is accepted. I would suggest that people who own this model of receiver not stack components as heat dissipation might be an issue with this base line model of...
  • Pros: A good base line receiver for the price. Good sound and performance right out of the box.
  • Cons: I noticed during the first week that as the receiver warmed up with use, the surround channel output signal to noise ratio was not good. Monitoring signal to noise on the output with a scope and plotting it against heat of the unit verified this. After 10 days of use, the right surround channel w...

Heed the reviews!

Boydster, Amazon
23 November 2012
  • Summary: Forced to purchase a digital HDMI capable receiver to replace my very good legacy analog 5.1 Kenwood which had no digital inputs. I reluctantly bought the 414 as there were a plethora of down-side reviews, particularly regarding software and reliability.

Nach 3 Jahren defekt

Tim Rost, Amazon
2 April 2016
  • Summary: Update: Im Rahmen des Customer Care von Onkyo wird das Gerät auf Kulanz repariert!
