Summary: I have had this for 8 months thinking Onkyo was a great product but the HDMI pass thru has never worked properly. The service center replaced a board they said was bad, but the problem persists. This may make my yard sale to help buy another brand...
Summary: I purchased an Onkyo TX-NR414 on March 4, 2013. By May 1st, 2013, the HDMI output was not working. I tried differnet cables and different devices for input. I reconfigured and reconfigured again. I read many reviews on-line where this appeared to be a firwmare problem in 2012 which was fixed with the latest firwmare (which I did not have despite buying the product well after the latest firmware release).
Summary: Let me start by saying that I was very excited to get this receiver up and running. It has so many bells and whistles that I could not believe it was so cheap. Well, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment after a few hours of use. I'll run down the list of failures in order of importance here: 1) HDMI PASS-THROUGH -- The video pass-through via HDMI would randomly cut out to a black screen.
Summary: HDMI video cuts out after 5/10minutes. Tested this on a few devices and cables. I also discovered that the Android application is not compatible with anything running ICS or above (almost any device in the last 2 years). Unless you are not planning on using video or any interface to set up your audio i would avoid at all cost. I will never even consider an Onkyo.

Summary: This review is for is to inform consumers about a rather severe problem that this unit has an issue with and how to fix it. PRE: This unit when it was shipped by Onkyo was part of a line of units that were to feature new and improved networking components for networked home theater management. However, the firmware installed on the units was as Onkyo puts it- not the correct version.
Summary: THIS WAS MY FIRST STEP INTO 5.1 SURROUND SOUND . I DON'T LIKE THIS ONKYO AT ALL. IT KEEPS PLAYING TRICKS ON ME . 1ST PROBLEM I SET MY BLU RAY TO DIGITAL UPSTREAM OUT THIS AMP DISPLAYED PCM AND THERE WAS NO SOUND. THEN THERE WAS SOUND ONLY FROM THE FRONT 2 SPEAKERS WITH DOLBY DIGITAL / DTS 5.1 . THEN THE SOUND WITH DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 WAS REVERSED I COULD HARDLY HEAR THE VOCALS OVER THE MUSIC WITH TOMMY DVD. IT KEEPS WIPING MY RADIO CHANNELS.
