  • Summary: Awesome receiver. Great sound and video upscaling. Love it. Would get another Onkyo. Only one thing, This receiver heats my house in spring and fall and makes the furnace unnecessary.

Reliability is poor

Amazon Customer, Amazon
23 February 2014
  • Summary: I won't repeat all the good things others have said. I have had mine for 6 months and I agree. It does run a bit hot, but I have not seen any of the other issues. It is also on the big and heavy side. The one issue I have that I have not seen discussed is that it is sensitive to HDMI loops. I discovered this when I wanted to use my blue-ray player with the superior video processing (Oppo 103D) to process video signals (e.g. cable TV).

WOW YOU GET A LOT!

Amazon Customer, Amazon
30 December 2012
  • Summary: First off the receiver arrived on time and was well packaged I got it for $1200.00. I couldn't pass that up. I am running my panasonic 60" gt50 through this receiver. I am havibng some troulble on the audio. whenever music plays in the movie the sound is great but the talking is not coming through. Sometimes I can get everything to work just fine, but it takes awhile. What I mean is this receiver has a lot and i do mean a lot of different combinations.

Much better than I expected

Robert Crenshaw, Amazon
29 October 2012
  • Summary: I was going to buy an Anthem pre/pro and ??? 7ch amp to replace my aging Denon which lacks HDMI, but my theatre is not yet finished so I bought the Onkyo to tide me over, assuming I'd need to replace it later. Well I don't think that'll be necessary. It's not great out of the box, but after a full 8 position Audyssey XT32 calibration it's brilliant, with bass resolution and vocal clarity I've not heard in my system before.

awesome receiver...

trainwreck, Amazon
4 August 2012
  • Summary: the title says it all. has just about every bell and whistle in a mainstream receiver besides 11 channel capability. honestly, i did not know it was going to be this good. if i had to do it all over again, i would've got the 5009 which is a several hundred dollar upgrade for having a toroidal transformer and a few other minute details, the toroidal transformer being the reason and brunt of the upgrade.
