Summary: Absolute piece of junk. Do not buy Onkyo as they put the absolute worst quality components in their receivers. I have a 12 year old Denon without all the moden inputs and features but it still works like a charm. The Onkyo has all the bells and whistles but doesn't work. 12 days out of warranty and the company will not do anything for me even though the problem is well documented and well known.
Summary: I bought this AVR in Sep 2011, did not use it till Dec. I started using it around the end of the year. It was a great experience. I was so happy that I bought it, upgrade firmware, Audyssey setup was a charm, iPad app was useful, DNLA made sharing so easy. Within few days it started behaving strangely, it started randomly changing music modes, and after playing for few hours it would just cut off all the speakers after a loud electrical discharge through the speaker, it...
Summary: I live in Canada and I purchased this item end of May 2011 from Amazon.com because it was not available in Canada. I shipped it to my brother in the U.S and picked it up on my way home from Florida. 3 months later I discovered by pure chance that the Right Surround speaker was not working and by slightly tapping the amplifier on its right side, the speaker worked. I initially thought that it was my cable. So I changed the cable and speaker as well.
Summary: Just wanted to add my info as well to the failures reported by others. Receiver is great when it works but after 9 months, my unit also freezes, gets stuck in cbl/sat mode and becomes unresponsive. This is after ensuring that I have adequate cooling (added an USB fan as well). Not good for a supposedly "high end" receiver.
Summary: The TX-NR3008 and other "high-end" receivers from Onkyo have issues. See the FAQ on Onkyos web site. I am out of the Amazon return period and am having to return to a service center for who knows have long. I called OneCall about the issue and they knew nothing about it. They should not be selling these receivers. The bottom line is do not buy from Onkyo.
Summary: I purchased this receiver back in February and it is now malfunctioning. It appears this model and others manufactured in late 2010 are defective so purchase at your own risk. I will add that Onkyo is paying for shipping to have this "refurbished" when they were aware of the issue to begin with. I now have to wait 3-4 weeks to get my receiver back and hope that further damage has not been done.
Summary: Of the 10 receivers I've owned over the decades, this is the best one for controlling sound (and video in this case). But, there are some of these models that have a known deficiency with the power module that could have disastrous consequences. Here are the symptoms; the remote stops working with no control of the power. Then other buttons fail, but the receiver still works with the front panel buttons - Onkyo technical service will tell you it is the remote.
Don't buy Onkyo - issues out of box & horrible support

Summary: I bought an Onkyo TX-NR3008, it worked for about 2hrs then went into Standby mode and I couldn't do anything with it. Screen went blank, no audio, no video, no response at all except a Standby light on top left. I called Onkyo support, they told me they can't do anything and to bring it to an authorized repair shop. There is only one authorized repair shop in all NJ which is an hour from my house.
