Onkyo products are "lemons", others reporting the same thing

Summary: Installed and ran fine until -- bang -- no sound. Checked all sources, and found same thing. Checked web, found many others with same problem. Called "support", and they said to send email. Emailed them three times, with no response at all. Such a company should cease to exist, so I hope you will not send them any money.

Summary: Onkyo TX-NR1008 9.2-Channel Network Home Theater Receiver Purchased the unit here on Dec 2010. Being a SW guy, kept up with Firmware upgrade, etc. Furthermore, the unit is very lightly used and is well placed. So a month ago, it starts acting up. The LED indicators for speakers disappear and I get no audio out, video and menus (their GUI) is fine, unit indicates no error. So what to do, when all fails unplug and reset to factory default. Boom done and done.
Summary: I purchased the TX-NR1008 Onkyo receiver about seven months ago on Amazon. After two months the receiver started turning on and off continuously, so the warranty covered getting it fixed (which was a huge hassle and took a month). Now, four months later, it's back in the shop again for a similar issue. The remote control has too many buttons and is not intuitive. Overall, a very disappointing receiver.
Summary: I purchased an Onkyo receiver in April, 2011. I also purchased an extended warranty and now in August I needed warranty repair service. Onkyo did refer me to a service dealer, but I need to get in contact with High Quality Electronics in order to have verification of warranty. The phone number they provide is bogus and I cannot find any real way of contacting them for service. They do not return email notes so I have no other option than to file a complaint with the BBB.
Summary: I purchased this receiver in February, 2011 as an upgrade to my older Onkyo. I was very impressed with the sound and operational abilities of this receiver: it exceeded all my expectations.... until April when it developed problems. The input selections began to automatically cycle and nothing would stop the cycling. None of the remote or main controls would have any effect and the unit had to be unplugged.
Summary: January 2011 we purchased the NR1008 after reading many reviews. Unfortunately, the other one star review is correct. The unit froze and will not turn off. I contacted Onkyo and they stated that they were "aware of this issue" and that we have to wait for a shipping label (mailed from NJ) in order to return the defective model to Syracuse NY . We are in Manhattan & I asked why there was not a service center closer.
Summary: I bought this a few months ago on Amazon. I've been using it as a switch for all of my HDMI sources (haven't used any Non-HDMI) and I use both HDMI outs (to two TVs in adjacent rooms). It was a little tricky getting the 2 HDMI outs to work, but I got that working. Otherwise, I've loved it - until now, when like Jake25, it's going crazy continuously cycling among sound formats (Dolby, Mono, etc.) - and no sound comes out while it's cycling.
Summary: Bought this reciever in the end of january good experience up front sent out through one call all is good but 4 moths later the unit has totally locked up after hours of searching through all of the internet forums found out there is a BIG problem with the 2010 line of recievers all have the same symptoms from the 708,808,1008,3008,5008.You can finf some over at a/v forums.
