Great AVR...be careful NOT to brick it with a FW upgrade
2 January 2011
Summary: This unit has performed great for everything I've used it for. This includes video upscaling from analog sources, HD video sources from blu ray players & cable STBs, and even did a great job with the networking functions if you want to stream music from your computer or a network server (even handles WMA lossless...which the PS3 could not handle).

Summary: OK, I am not going to try and cover the bases others have covered so well. However, I have the receiver connected to my PC with an MSI mb and HD optical audio out, and a DVI to HDMI connection. I have Energy Take 5.0 speakers, an Outlaw 10" powered sub, and for the front left and right a pair of Acoustic Research AR51s full range speakers that have 12" woofers. I also have a BD player connected to it, which is then connected to my HDTV.

Summary: I was looking at the Onkyo models for a few months, two things I was really wanting network access and preamp outputs. I had my eye on both this and it's big cousin, the Onkyo TX-NR807 7.2-Channel A/V Surround Home Network Receiver (Black) . What I really loved was the ability to stream lossless .flac files over the network connection! I set the price watch for under $600 and within a month I had an email saying my target price had been met!!
Summary: I received this nice unit about 3 weeks ago and it is very heavy- a very good thing in an Amp. I like how the speaker terminals are not bunched together. It was somewhat confusing connecting the L/R rear surrounds. as I placed them into the Back L/R surrounds, not just L/R. The error was identified by the nice, and easy to use automatic sound analysis engine (whatever its called Audio....something), as it could not find a rear surround.
Summary: This is very good system. However, the user manual and customer service ove rphone are both pathetic. Requires a fair bit of patience and engineering problem solving skills if there is a problem, especially with network connectivity. For the way my home network is set up, I had to diable DHCP and assign a fixed IP. The reciever has problems in this mode and required lot of fiddling to get it working. Not for the faint hearted. But once setup, it is awesome.
Summary: UPDATE 12/23/09 UPDATE I've had my replacement receiver for roughly a week and everything is working well. My system sounds great - right now I'm only driving a 5.1 speaker set up and this receiver handles it with ease. The internet streaming capabilities of the receiver are very enjoyable.
