Summary: I am in no way affiliated with Marantz. I recently purchased a refurbished Marantz SR 6001 7.1 channel Receiver for a good discount. These are my experiences so far. To begin with it looks fantastic, very well built with subtle understated styling that will look good with any other components.
Summary: This receiver was very well planned. It is intuitive, well-appointed with current inputs and outputs. It is also somewhat backward compatible although, sadly, it lacks a phono input. The build quality is terrific. The only concern is the expense and sullied reputation of Marantz support.
Summary: The 7.1 surround sound is awsome. Plenty of power. Numerous inputs for all your entertainment needs. With a nice set of speakers you cant go wrong. I went with Polk Audio. Monitor 60's for the front, CS1 for center, M30's for sides and rear. For the sub PSW10.
