One of the best AV receivers I have owned

Mrgreenjeans, Amazon
8 September 2014
  • Summary: One of the best AV receivers I have owned. Paired them with some Paradigm surround speakers. It is nice to plug everything into the back of this unit and only have one HDMI going to the tv. If I were to look at buying this unit again I would go with Marantz but I might consider getting a more powerful unit.

Great design with amazing sound and practical features you will use

Andrew LaMar, Amazon

  • Summary: My Polk's were honestly not that expensive, but this unit makes them sound like it! The difference before and after calibration are night and day. I would imagine this would be true of any speakers connected to this. The form factor is amazing. I am not embarrassed to have it visible, as I would be with other units that look like you parked a tank in your cabinet. Lastly, I like the lack of gimmicky sound modes included on this unit.

Extremely happy with the NR1604

  • Summary: The Marantz NR1604 receiver is excellent, incredible surround sound!!! On screen display very user friendly, easy setup and calibration of the surround sound speakers. The only thing Marantz made a mistake with was not adding WI-FI, it has an ethernet port for connecting to the internet.

Highly recommended.

  • Summary: This is my first Marantz receiver. I have one Sony DN1050 receiver and I obviously like the NR1604 more. Especially sound quality is amazing. It's pure, powerful and has lot of details. You barely hear the background noise and can not believe it has only 70W for channel. If you are looking for a decent home theater receiver at this price range, I would recommend it to everyone. Best Buy!

Has a problem is ALAC files delivered via DLNA.

S. Lederer "M. Lederer", Amazon
26 May 2014
  • Summary: Airplay is a gem, but ALAC encoded files delivered via PMS (Playstation Media Sever) do not play. Needed to configure PMS to transcode to ALAC files. I contacted Marantz and they said they don't support any specific DLNA servers and they don't know what the Japanese engineers use to test with. I did find another servers for purchase that can interface with this.

Love it

  • Summary: For the price it is worth. The sound quality is very clear and details. I can hear the dialog very clear with this AVR. Playing stereo or surround music through this AVR can bring you great sound especially playing Stereo through Multi channel mode. The only setback is the missing of Wi-Fi.

Plenty of HDMI Inputs and Enjoying Apple Airplay Much More Than Expected

mjcarrabine "mcarra", Amazon

  • Summary: After buying a new 60" Samsung TV recently, I quickly realized that the lack of HDMI switching on my ancient Sony receiver was going to be a problem, so I sent to Best Buy to a high quality receiver with an emphasis on music over movies, but with plenty of HDMI inputs to simplify mounting my TV to the wall. I have had it for a few weeks now, and am very happy with the sound quality and features of the NR1604.

Back Home With Marantz

USMC Combat Vet "Retired!", Amazon
4 February 2014
  • Summary: UPDATE 9/12/2013: I have moved this to the master bedroom as I miss being able to connect ALL my A/V equipment as I could on my Yamaha and experience ALL the different sound fields to enhance their use. I also missed the multiple sound fields assignable to my gaming that my Yamaha offered. Given the price and LIMITED features I am lowering my rating to 3 stars at it's full list price.
