Summary: Great receiver, but it could have more power. This receiver doe's everything I want it to do. I like the small profile, doesn't take up a lot of space. Only 50 watts per channel, could be 70 or 80 watts, but seems to have enough for my needs! This is the older model of this unit, didn't care about the 4k pass through.
Great unit, big improvement from my old Marantz gear.

Summary: I really liked the musical quality of my old Marantz SR5200 but it didn't have HDMI so I finally bit the bullet when I got a new TV and bought this one. Wow! The surround sound is dramatically better. Another pleasant surprise was the automate source switching and power on/off. It took me a while how to get the setting right, but now my other units trigger the Marantz to turn on and off, and usually the source switches automatically.
Summary: Pros: Footprint is small, fits where others won't High quality enclosure, connectors, remote Great room configuration tools (mic, testing program) Cons: Lacking extensive equalizer settings other competitors offer Difficulty playing files through network connection (could just be operator error at the moment, still investigating) As-is in box, wired connection only
Summary: I've had this 100% working for almost a week and everything has worked as expected. The multi-zone configuration (living room and patio) works. I am able to watch a show and listen to music simultaneously. I setup my Logitech Harmony 900 remote with the Marantz and again no issues in getting the commands to work. I did have to add a customized command for Zone 2, as it didn't exist within the predefined commands.
Summary: If you have a multi-HDMI input HDTV as I do, you have a decision to make regarding whether to connect your cable, blue-ray, etc directly into the HDTV or through an AV receive like the Marantz and then to the big screen. My Marantz is connected to 7 surround speakers so I can get optical audio out of the HDTV back to the Marantz (it has an input for just that) or directly if I plug media into it and then to the TV.
Summary: We use this receiver to manage the sound of: 5 flush ceiling mounted Polk speakers in our living room. (Zone 1) 2 wall mounted outdoor speakers on our back patio/ pool area. (Zone 2) We have our blu-ray player, roku player, mp3 player and high def 3D flat screen TV connected through it. It was easy to set up and program and has been working beautifully for about two weeks now.
Summary: This really is a beautiful, sleek piece of equipment and it definitely was time to replace my old Sony receiver. I was able to reduce the mess of composite wires and cables behind my stereo cabinet to just some power and HDMI cables. Set up was relatively easy. I have only a center speaker, two front speakers, and two rear speakers. (A subwoofer is in my shopping cart.) The Audyssey set up was somewhat frustrating.

Summary: I am replacing a three year old Sony STR-DA5400ES Sony STR-DA5400ES ES 7.1 Channel Audio/Video Receiver which is a comparable product to this Marantz receiver. Both receivers use a microphone to adjust to the room sound dynamics and speaker frequency response. The microphone setup can make an enormous difference in home theater sound quality. It is essential in any high end sound system, especially in a non-idealized shaped room or mismatched speakers.
