Summary: Great brand, and the size spec really solved a problem for me so I was happy to spring for it. Issues at the outset with the tuner section and 2-way hdmi. I'd read about this but figured they'd been fixed. Doing the deep dive on it now, but it shouldn't be so tough at this point in the cycle of the technology.
Summary: Bought this model on closeout, the new 1604 adds 4k upscaling and another HDMI, which weren't worth the price increase to me. The amp sounds great, dont let the "50W" power output fool you, it is plenty for my home theater system. Other manufacturers are clever with their power ratings, so numbers are commonly misleading. I have read alot of reviews regarding HDMI issues, specifically handshake issues. I was very nervous of that when I got this.
Summary: Great receiver, but it could have more power. This receiver doe's everything I want it to do. I like the small profile, doesn't take up a lot of space. Only 50 watts per channel, could be 70 or 80 watts, but seems to have enough for my needs! This is the older model of this unit, didn't care about the 4k pass through.
Summary: Item worked for about an hour....when I tried to turn it back on no picture no sound... worked great for about an hour!!! sent it back!! Amazon was great!! got my money back long before they got the item back!! which was cool... I was shopping on amazon before that!! GOT NEW SPEAKERS !!
Summary: I had a Harmon Kardon receiver for several years and loved it, then upgraded to the AVR1610. I had issues with the HDMI switching and couldn't figure it out (I'm pretty tech savvy), so contacted the support desk. Unfortunately the help desk had been outsourced to another country and I wasn't able to get the answers I needed, so I returned the receiver. I then opted for the 1603. It was last year's model so got a pretty good deal on it.
Summary: The Marantz NR1603 was very easy to set up and has great sound. but...My purchase of the NR1603 on Dec. 18, 2013 is being returned today (Dec 30, 2013). I am unable to play blu rays or even standard dvds ... Like another review that I had read, I also experience video cut-out (every 10 - 30 seconds). The audio remains fine during video cut-out periods. I have swapped in two other dvd/blu ray players and have tried 3 different hdmi cables (all 6 ft. length).
