There are better models in the price range

Lee T., Newegg

  • Summary: There are comparable receivers in this price range with a lot more features. I replaced this with an Onkyo TX-SR605S for ~$50 more. It supports HDMI 1.3 and can switch 5 digital inputs instead of 2.
  • Pros: Nice HDMI upconversion, small size, looks nice.
  • Cons: You can only use TWO digital connections on this receiver. So two HDMI OR 1 HDMI and 1 component OR two component. You can only connect a maximum of 3 audio devices in to this receiver (not including the XM or USB). The 3 inputs are DVD/DVR (why that's combined I don't know), VCR/DSB and DSB. Onl...

  • Cons: DVD does not have optical In, so need ti plug in DVD to VCR input

  • Summary: READY THE USER GUIDE. This is not a plug and play device. You have to understand its limits or you will waste time tinkering. Have not tested HDMI.
  • Pros: BLU-RAY READY. remote easily changes levels of each speaker. Small frame lot of power. unbeatable performance to cost ratio.
  • Cons: you may have to be creative with input devices. My CD changer is digital so it runs through the DBS swith. Stick with basic accessories VCR/DVD/TV/SIRIUS/USB

  • Summary: You can't get this kind of HDMI switching/upconversion and features for the price anywhere else.
  • Pros: Excellent HDMI upconversion from any input source (composite, s-video, component all go to HDMI), XM/Sirius ready, decodes many digital formats, amazing feature set for the price.
  • Cons: No "B-Speaker" or "Zone 2" speaker option for speakers to be run in another room. Remote looks/feels cheap and most setup tweaking has to be done on the unit front-panel.
