I love digital amp receivers!

Paul G. McCravy, Amazon
19 April 2007
  • Summary: I originally bought the 401 but exchanged it for the 205 as the 401 was much too complicated for my purposes. I also found that the HDMIs on the 401 are for convience (fewer cables) and does not make any noticable improvements over component connects.

Everything Works...mostly, kinda

Robert Welsh, Amazon
15 April 2007
  • Summary: I've had my RX-D201S continuously powered on for the last six months, and it still works. The unit does get very warm. The USB connection has worked great from day one, and that is why I bought this unit.

Excellent Value Receiver

XOPS, Amazon
11 April 2007
  • Summary: I am very pleased with the performance at the pricepoint. The sound improvement for both movies and satellite on my TV is outstanding. I have not used either the game mode or the PC mode. The auto-select for digital processing is impressive as is the selection of environments.

Superb sound quality, excellent feature set

Rick Shapiro, Amazon
11 April 2007
  • Summary: I am using the unit for audio applications, not home theater (which I may try later). The receiver drives my Klipsch speakers providing a sound that is very distinct and yet without sharp edges. All members of my critical-eared family love the sound.

I love this sound!

dman, Amazon
10 April 2007
  • Summary: First off, I bought this mainly for music listening, but I will be using it for movies also. I always had personal a problem with digital receivers...they had clarity but lacked warmth and a powerful sound. Let me tell you, this has everything I like in a sound...

Shuts Down (resets) frequently

TI99, Amazon
8 March 2007
  • Summary: I have owned this receiver for over a year and have been trying to isolate why it would turn off during movies during high volume scenes (the same scenes every time they are played). Basically the receiver is overloaded! JVC support is no help, they suggested that the speakers might be bad.

Not bad

James F., Newegg
24 January 2007
  • Summary: Why would you use a surround receiver without a digital input??? I have my DVD using digital coax and cable box using digital optical connection and both outputting 5.1 just fine. The other review before me is crazy.
  • Pros: Nice look. The menu and configuration isn't exactly intuitive but it's not horrible either. Half the height of typical receivers.
  • Cons: Sometimes difficult to tell which surround mode is activated by display. It needs an indicator for muli-channel decoding like other models have.

Does not support surround!!!

Anonymous, Newegg
18 January 2007
  • Summary: You can connect 7.1 speakers but they'll only be playing stereo. Don't waste your money.
  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Does not have analog surround inputs, digital only supports stereo, wattage advertised is not RMS.

great deal

Michael E., Newegg
8 November 2006
  • Summary: This is a really great device, especially for the price. Hopefully it lives a long life. Bought it on Wednesday, got it on Friday, regular shipping--it beat the email tracking notification!
  • Pros: Easy to wire, LOTS of connections. Interface is good, it's really easy to set up surround parameters, customize inputs, etc.
  • Cons: Seems to run a little hot, but the low profile leaves it plenty of breathing room on my shelf.
