Summary: The HK 3490 delivers a clear sound. When the musice source is a CD or Ipod, the sound is remarkable. Use the optical digital audio for playing CD's, which enhanced the sound quality, this was a nice feature. Use the HK Ipod bridge II for this receiver, this was the reason for purchasing this system. The HK Ipod bridge II allows you to use the reciever display for song Info and control, or you can switch control to the Ipod, and use the Ipod itself for song selection.
Summary: Potential buyers should be warned that this unit is geared more towards people wishing to get good quality sound for their music over their movies. It doesn't have any HDMI inputs, therefore rendering almost useless for any home theater setup of 2009 (where many are moving to HDMI connections today). It is not useless for movies, but it is definitely not geared towards a movie-watcher. The unit itself is great, offers good power and usability.
Summary: I've had this receiver for a 3 months now, and I am incredibly impressed. I'm a college student working on creating my first high-end stereo system, and this receiver fit the bill precisely. I'm powering a set of Cambridge Soundworks T205 speakers, and they sound unbelievable with this receiver.
Summary: Easy to set up. Great power which makes your speakers kick. I am currently using the HK with my Totem Arro's and they make a great combination. The dual sub out is pretty nice too. I wish there were more digital inputs but for everything else its a great buy! enjoy.
Great choice for music listeners not wanting surround sound.

Summary: I purchased the HK 3490 from Amazon to replace a 13 year old Sony receiver. The Sony had served me well, but it had a lot of confusing buttons and features, many of which were related to the surround sound Pro-Logic and video switching functions, which I never used. I wanted to replace the Sony with something that was easier to use.
