Summary: I bought this receiver for The Bridge to work with my iPod. Initially it was fine. Then the remote quit working. Then one of the speakers would cut out intermittently, not the connection. Then the Bridge went out.
Summary: I bought this HK3490 to replace a very old and beloved HK AVR7000. The home theater stuff on the market did not meet with my expectations and I did months of research trying to duplicate the crisp, clean highs and thunderous bass delivered by the AVR7000, which I used as a stereo.
Summary: Great value for the exceptional sound! My late 70's receiver was in need of a fix that I think would have been costly so I sought out a new one. Receivers today do not have real wooden sides and nice burly metal tuning and volume knobs any more but sound is what I was really after.
Summary: I use this receiver to power a 1977 Rotel turntable with Shure V15 TypeIII cartridge and a pair of Polk 45B bookshelf speakers. I am very pleased. It brings out the warm sounds that vinyl offers. It's amazing how clear the vocals sound. The FM tuner works very well also.
Summary: For old-school stereo setups it would be hard to beat this unit at this price. Lots of power, beautiful looks, tons of inputs, and super-clean sound. One fellow gave it one egg since it did not have HDMI inputs--it's not that kind of product.
Pros: High Power Digital Input Great Sound Lots of inputs including phono Remote Looks great
Cons: Somewhat large Odd display dimming when Video input selected Note: NOT an AV (HDMI) Reciever Limited EQ
Summary: After reading through the 250+ reviews here I ordered this "beast". This good looking receiver was on my doorstep when I got home after work waiting patiently for me to "do the needful". I lifted it from my front porch, and it had some real weight to it (31.5 pounds).
Summary: I've been with Harman Kardon since I built, from a kit, a stereo amplifier during finals week in 1962. It still works!! I'm now using primarily the HJ-3490 and I like it as much as my very first HK. Great products. Goose
Summary: I have owned the Harmon Kardon 3490 for about 19 months now. It was just working great till I ran into two different problems about 6 weeks back. 1) The receiver's sound output started halting. The sound output to the speakers dropped every other second or so and then recovered.
Summary: I have owned Harman Kardon receivers for the last 40 years. I have always found them superior to other brands I have tried. The clarity of the sound on this model is excellent. I have it connected to a pair of Klipsch speakers, and it brings out their full potential quite nicely.
Very good sound and features - cannot believe the value

Summary: As the title suggests, I find this to be a fantastic value for money. I wanted to buy a two channel receiver/amp specifically for listening to music as I was not at all satisfied with the sound I was getting from my A/V receiver.
