Summary: I have been looking for a receiver to drive a pair of 20 year old Snell bookshelf speakers and this is it. I did not want a receiver for my TV, so I won't comment on how it works with movies, etc. I just wanted a receiver that would produce quality sound and push the Snell speakers. I am extremely happy with this product and am sure you will be if you are looking for a stereo receiver. It looks great and sounds even better.
Excerpt: I bought this very nice receiver for my wilderness home in Young AZ. There is no FM radio reception there so I was mainly interested in coupling it with XM radio and using it with CDs and have also found that it works well with streaming from satellite internet service.
Excerpt: Very satisfied with my Harmen Karden HK3490. I purchased it mainly because its compatible with my Bose 901 speakers. Im also very satisfied with Vanns and I will purchase other electronic items from them in the future. Vanns customer service is outstanding.
Excerpt: I bought this Amp to replace my 30 year okld Carver C-4000 pre-amp and C-500 amp. there is something to be said for 30 years of technology---Nice sound coming out of my JBLs. I was disappointed in Harman Kardon tho for discontinuing the Bridge 2 for IPOD dock. This receiver was built in NOv 09 , so why did they put the connector in it if they dont make the bridge 2? The Tech at HK pretty much gave me the thats the way the mop flops attitude.
Summary: I use this reciever strictly for music listening purposes. No video. No surround set-up. Old school multi speaker stereo. This reciever is NOT for the faint of heart! It delivers crystal clear, hard driving sound! I could not be more pleased!Be sure your speakers are up to the task...they will have to be formidable or risk getting pushed around on this playground!
Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Setup, Intuitive Controls, Thundering Bass
Summary: This stereo is the perfect solution for those looking for a stereo sound source. I use this in an office setting. It is connected to a volume control speaker selector that ultimately powers six pairs of in-ceiling speakers. The Dolby Virtual Surround greatly enhances the sound coming from the speakers. The only extra gadgets I was looking for to meet these needs was the ability to control an I-pod or be satellite radio ready.
Summary: I could go on all day nit picking about this or that bell and whistle but I won't. This is a terrific reciever that has the phono hookup so I can hear my vinyl when I'm in the mood and does a great job of powering my four way (15" woofered) old school floor speakers. I can run my CD player, DVD player, TV or just about anything else through it. The digital inputs are something I didn't have on my old reciever but plan to use on this 3490 in the near future.
Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Setup, Interfaces Well With TV, Intuitive Controls, Phono hookup
Summary: I purchased the HK3490 to replace the Marantz SR4320 that I purchased several years ago. I originally had an old Kenwwod receiver to drive my Bose 901 Series II speakers. The Bose speakers can be connected to a receiver either via a tape-loop monitor or via the preamp out and main amp in connections, but Bose recommends connecting speakers via a tape-loop monitor, since there is greater interference when connecting via the preamp out and main amp in connections.
Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Setup, Interfaces Well With TV
