Summary: Researched months to replace my 1980's JVC 250W AE-5 Integrated Amp. An old school audiophile with Akai 77 Reel, phono, CD, 2 equalizers, tape decks, etc; the HK 3490 accommodates all components and vintage Sansui 320W speakers coupled with a pair of Kenwood 100W. Additionally, it eliminated the need for my old tuner due to its internal tuner. I have a separate Home Theater System; therefore, I don't use the video/audio jacks.
Pros: Accurate Controls, Easy Setup, Energy Efficient, Good Power Output, Good Remote Control, Great Sound Quality
Excerpt: I have been considering theHarman Kardon Receivers HK3490 for a long time. When I found the price is so reasonable and made the decision at once. It did not disappoint me. It is warm , clear, very musical and powerful. I think it is the best at this price.
Summary: Not only do I purchase items that sounds great, it must look good. The HK 3490 fits the bill on both fronts. Attractive receiver with fine audio quality. The remote needs a back light and it should be have learning capabilities. All in all for the price, its a great stereo receiver.
Pros: Accurate Controls, Easy Setup, Good Power Output, Great Sound Quality
Summary: I would just like to say J&R were helpful and accurate. They won another customer on the west coast. I'm saying that first because I think it's rarer to have good customer service than a good component. That said, the HK3490 is what all the reviews say it is. Powerful high quality sound. Be careful you plug in a good source. I was initially disappointed when I played songs from my computer (mp3). Then I went to the CD player and was overwhelmed.
Summary: I've been into high fidelity for over 50 years, and until I bought this receiver I always had separate components. The HK replaced a stereo preamplifier, FM tuner, and basic amplifier, all vintage stuff, and it sounds better on all inputs--phono, CD, FM. I'm completely satisfied.
Pros: Accurate Controls, Easy Setup, Good Power Output, Good Remote Control, Great FM reception, Great Price, Great Sound Quality, Streamlined design
Excerpt: I returned this item and purchased an Onkyo THX receiver. Much better build. This receiver has cheap button and the display is not the greatest. The sound quality is not good at all. Made my Polk Audio Monitor 70 sound terrible. Keep looking . Spend the extra $50 or so. You wont regret it.
