Summary: I got this receiver to take the place of my 5.1 yamaha home theater receiver, for mainly listening to music, thinking it would be better for listening to music then my Yamaha, but after a week of listening to the HK I came to realize that my Yamaha has better sound. So I went back to the yamaha. Now the HK sits in the corner of my game room. Wish I never bought it.
Summary: Purchased this as a strictly music only amp. And for that, this unit is perfect and beyond! The internal pre-amp for my tuntable is very quiet and sounds absolutely stunning. With the volume very high during the runout lead, the sound was just a faint hiss. I decided not to buy a stand-alone pre-amp because it was that great.
Summary: I was in need of of new stereo amplifier, and 2-channel, high-end sound quality was what I was looking for. I was excited to find this and the price was fantastic. I'm not a real audio guy, so I can't fill the page with flowering praises built on audio language, but I can say that I'm in heaven when I listen to music now.
A good all around powerful receiver/amplifier/tuner.

Summary: We have large (old) MagnaPlanar speakers that require more power to run than most modern receiver/tuner/amplifiers put out. We don't use the tuner option as we are in a dead area for radio reception, so cannot comment. However, it works well for our purposes.
Summary: The Harman Kardon HK 3490 is a great sounding stereo receiver with no nonsense power. My setup is the 3490's pre amp outs to a BBE DS24 digital crossover. Crossovers High outs (90hz and above) returned to the 3490s pre amp ins, then out the power amps in the HK to a set of Magneplanar SMGa speakers. Crossover Low out (90hz and below) to a pair of Yamaha YST-SW150 powered subwoofers. System eq and a time alignment check was done with Smaart FFT software.
Summary: I recently purchased my HK 3490 stereo receiver. My previous HK receiver that I had had since 1986 had to go to recycling Heaven after 25 years of faithful service. Although the new HK is bigger and heavier in size (I figured it wouild be smaller and lighter the way most electronics have shrunk in size and weight), I had no problem fitting it into the cabinet where my old HK sat for 25 years.
Summary: I use this receiver with a pair of Bose 901's and a pair of svs 12" powered subs. true to its legacy, the Harmon Kardon Hk 3490 delivers amazing performance. Virtual Speaker is exactly that in this mode there is clear and full sound every where in the room! the unit is feature packed and seems to perform even better as it is pushed harder. you can't go wrong if you purchase one of these!
Summary: HK's are beasts. I can see the caps and power supply inside and when this thing says 125 wpc, it has the hardware to back it up. I can easily dim lights with transient hits on my power hungry speakers. The receiver sounds good. A little laid back in upper mids and kinda digtial on the high end but... its not a $5000 tube.
