Summary: Ok I have owned mine for a few years now but had to rate this baby. I read all the reviews and with the exception of the person with the bad customer service complaint and the person with the defective unit, the rest about say it all (There is bad customer service in the world unfortunately, which has nothing to do with the unit and you can receive defect electronic equipment from time to time). I think these reviews should be the actual product.
Summary: Read other reviews first, then ordered. Really think the negative reviews are picky. What matters is sound, and this unit is incredible. Friends now want to hang out and watch movies, games, or just TV. Easy hook up and the setup for the speakers was a hoot! Play the beginning of 'Pitch Black' and you'll never go back!
Very worthwhile, one of the better high end mass fi receivers

Summary: This receiver is much better than similar products I've owned from Sony ES, Pioneer Elite, etc. I think the sound is better than some of the most famous audiophile gear, such as a hybrid tube/solid Counterpoint gear I tested it against. I'm fairly demanding of audio gear (my reference rig was a single-ended triode setup with no preamp or anything else to muddy the sound, to give you an idea).
Summary: I teamed this reciever with HKTS-14 and the door to the house rattles in the jamb when things in my movies blow up. The children outside get quiet. The clarity and thump are beautiful, both with the door and the AVR. My old man has the best Bose system you can buy and while it is no doubt great, I've had his system up all the way and this HK is more crisp and I swear louder. And let's not forget afterwords I had enough money left over for a nice steak dinner.
Summary: I have another high end amp that this unit works even better than for half the price. I love both of them but this HK has far better options packaged together. The display is a blast to look at in the dark, more surround options to listen to than ears attached to your head. Setup can be tricky if you're not audio/video savy but it's well worth it.
Summary: This is a beautiful sounding and powerful AVR receiver/Amp. The sound is clear, strong, and has great depth. It is not a harsh (overly revealing) amp like the Denon can be when matched with bright speakers. This amp has a very deep spatial clean sound which is warmly revealing, strong, and quality all of the way. It seems to make the instruments sort of float and stand out in the musical space.
Summary: Before you panic at the high retail price tag, relax. When you add it to your shopping cart you will see that AMAZON.com cuts the price signifigantly, to say the least. You get an H/K receiver at a Sony (chuckle) price. Next, let me tell you the difference between 5.1 and 7.1 sound. 5.1 sound has six speakers: Front Left, Center, and Right; Rear Left and Right; and a Subwoofer*.
Summary: This is my 2nd HK HT receiver and let me say, don't be fooled by any other manufactures claims on wattage. HK amps just have alot more torque pushing the speakers than anyone else out there. Highs are crystal clear, dialogue is clean and crisp, midrange is warm. What more do you want? Well, lets see, this amp basically sets itself up. With the EZSet/EQ feature, this amp sets itself apart from all others on the market.
Summary: The 635 has all the bells and whistles that are useful for the audiophile. Yes there is a little better this or that, its usually just semantics or so over priced its not worth the money. This box reproduces high quality sound at a pricepoint you can live with. I have coupled mine with some awesome components and have never looked back for the past year. Its still the box to beat for under $1000.00 in my book.
