Summary: What a great little system; I am just putting together my first home theatre, and this receiver is just perfect; plenty of ways to input, and all very user friendly. I must say that I love the style of the unit. I bought it for the price and the appearance and am pleased with both.
Looks cool, built well, good power, basic sound quality.

Summary: This receiver fits for movies simple music, simple rock and simple pop. Looks cool, has tons of features, enough power, but the power is not equal to sound quality. I've expected more. But if you are ladygagalistener- this receiver fits 100%.
Summary: WOW this was my first experience with e-buying, extremely cool experience from the rush I felt bidding against 2 other bidders and the photo finish win is hard to explain ....wow!!! high end quality equipment my newly beloved Harmon kardon...dont' know how I survived without it. small on the power but dont be fooled this sweetheart is like the love of your life sturdy and beautiful.
Summary: Nice receiver for those on a budget looking for older/used receiver. Supports newer functions (DTS NEO 6, Dolby Digital EX) yet generally is sold pretty cheap because it is a few years old. I would say the sound quality is a bit better than my Onkyo TX-SR500, which is also an entry level model (older though). I would bet that this model compares favorably to any of the Onkyo TX-SR50_ models. Don't be fooled by low wattage numbers.
Summary: I own two Harmon/Kardon receivers, one a two channel and the other a 5.1 AVR I bought both as "refurbished" and they came complete with owners manuals and remotes. These units far outclass the Sony's, the Yamahas, Panasonics, and the Aiwas I owned previously. They are far and away a better unit all 'round with sound I never experienced with the better known and more popular brands noted.
Summary: I recently purchased the Harman-Kardon AVR-146 on Ebay for a friend. The weekend it arrived, he was out of town, but he insisted that I test the amplifier anyway. Man, what a surprise for a 30 watt amp! My old Radio Shack Minimus 7 bookshelf speakers suddenly came alive. I had no idea; these small bookshelf speakers could sound so good. The awesome sound this amp produces totally engulfs the room with a soothing ambience.
Summary: Sounds great but we are having a problem with the music occasionally cutting in and out. The system was refurbished. The receiver is quite heavy and I do not think it would be cost effective to ship it out to try to have it fixed again. It is a nice looking receiver but we're undecided about the value since it doesn't seem like a trustworthy system.
