I don't need HDMI or the new fancy lossless codecs like TrueHD or DTS-HD since I have 2.0 speakers.

Summary: I just picked up one of these now antiques on Ebay for less than $50 shipped and it still works well. Since I only use 2.0 speakers and maybe soon 2.1 (I want a subwoofer soon, amybe the HS10W or HS8S) this fits the bill perfectly.

Summary: The "Harman Kardon AVR-500" Surround Sound Receiver, is, without a doubt, The finest receiver I've ever had the privilege to experience "Over the Top!! Being a classical Violinist, I listen to various aspects in music mostly from the perspective of a "live performance".
Summary: i was very leery about buying this reciever as some of the units had problems. i was lucky that i had a honest ebayer, the unit works perfectly and the sound is amazing. if your looking for a good dolby digital reciever on the cheap, picking up one of these units on ebay will fit the bill and you...
Summary: I WAS THINKING ABOUT REPLACING OLD AV SYSTEM SO SPEAKERS FIRST I REPLACED 15 YEAR OLD INFINITY UNITS WITH ENERGY B-1 TOWERS 5DRIVER CENTER CHANNEL AND 100 WATT POWERED 12'' SUB. THIS MATCHING 5.1 SYSTEM WORKS WELL WITH YAMAHA RECEIVER RXV 480.BUT THIS I CHOSE TO REPLACE WITH THE MUCH LARGER H/K...
Summary: Solid power and clean, full sound. Although it doesn't have THX or any of the newer features you can find in newer receivers like video upconversion, it produces great stereo performance and convincing movie effects. All in All - great value for the money.
Summary: Harmon Kardon by far is the best in home theatre there quality of receivers is almost as good as the movie theatre sound itself. If you only have 1000 dollars to spend buy this baby and when you get it home it has enough power to blow you out of the house , with crystal clear dynamic Dolby Digital &...
Summary: I purchased this amp/receiver about a month ago and had it hooked up the night it arrived. The setup is kind of confusing at first but once you figure it out (what the manual is saying) it isn't too much trouble.
Summary: It runs on 45 amps. Simply put this is the number you should be looking at. Other receivers at higher price points run less amps compensating with more watts. I auditioned an Onkyo (36 amps I think & 105 watts/channel) with the HK AVR500 (45 amps & 80 watts/channel).
Summary: First of all let me say the soind quality from this reciever blew my mind. I watched Jurasic Park with DTS and it made my cat hide in a cabinet! (she used to never react to the TV) however, the user on screen display user interface is very unfreindly - the remote is terrible, i expected to replace...
