Summary: Excellent sound, but poor on features. I usually buy equipment to last as many years as reasonably possible, and this HK has proven to be somewhat of a failure in that regard. HDMI inputs don't support any of the usually used audio formats on blu-rays (I'm not sure if they actually support any audio format at all). No 3D. This has forced me to use external audio decoder - after that I've discovered that HK doesn't support bass management for analog audio inputs.
Summary: If you're wanting good HDMI processing then look for another receiver. If you want superior sound, then consider this one. The EQ mic provided does a superb job of auto EQ. Of course speakers matter. I have a 10 year old Bose system with non powered sub. I had to add a sub to make them sound good but now they work great with this receiver. Prior recievers owned were Pioneer, Yamaha and Dennon. The Harman/Kardon sounds better than all those.
Summary: For Rick who complained of insufficient documentation (you must be lazy). Here are links to the docs on Harman's site. Summary: This is a fantastic piece of equipment! Its easy to hook up and easy to operate. The instruction book is easy to understand. This is the perfect companion to my big screen TV and it puts a big smile on my face every time I watch a movie.
Summary: As stated by some of the reviews the avr445 does not process hdmi signals. Well if you just read the specs it states that it is only a pass through for HDMI. If you are going to spend that much money on something dont you think you should read the specs first. I am very very happy with mine. The instruction are a tad bit mixed up but it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure them out, just some patiance. And in the end it is worth the hassle. This thing sounds great.
Summary: I was under whelmed with this unit. As stated in the previous review, this is a very expensive pass through for HDMI signals. The documentation was miserable to follow often referring the user to diagrams on pages 3+ pages away -- leads to constant flipping through the manual. The user's manual was obviously written by an engineer and very difficult to follow. I tried to set up my 6.1 Bose System and repeated attempts failed.
Summary: I rated this item low because I did not get the supposed benefits of having two hdmi inputs and the very arrogant behavior of the Harman Kardon web support. Firstly, AVR 445 did not process just pass-through hdmi signal. Consequently, it is necessary to connect redundant video cables in order you can see OSD setup menus. Then, cabling simplification is not true.
Summary: Unit arrived ahead of promised date. The unit is an elegant looking component. It has performed just fantastic, I hear sounds and instruments from my cd's that I never had before. Needless to say I am very happy with my purchase and with amazon.
Summary: This receiver has everything one needs for an audio/video system with full surround sound. It was very easy to setup and operate. I read a lot of reviews and professional opinions and in the price range this unit came out on top. I cannot find anything to dislike about the unit.
