Summary: Thought I was buying quality, Audio and Video problem 2 years into purchase. Finnaly the video quite. Took it too a HK recognized service centre. I was told the HDMI board was gone and replacement parts not available. Sounds like others have had the same problems with same results.
Summary: My top line is- dont buy, it will have issues but the customer service is just NOT worth it. !! Its way more hassle than its worth, their customer service needs a major overhaul.... My AVR3600 worked well for about 10 months, literally no issues, and its a great machine when its working. Then it started to go awry. Sound would shift into different modes, as I had only 2 speakers rigged, this meant that some of the sounds were not coming through.
Summary: While unavailable for purchase at the time of writing (2013/27/07) this receiver deserves a review. The previous comments detailing the various snafus with this receiver are correct but none of it has been a deal-breaker. Much to the testimony of the build quality this receiver lived through a severe power short at my household causing the power to be highly irregular. The protective circuitry did it's task more than once.
If you are looking for a great surround sound receiver, ths is it!

Summary: I have owned surround sound receivers ever since they first came out and this one is the best one I have ever owned! It comes with a microphone that you put in the listening spot, then it sends out frequencies to all the speakers to calculate how to calibrate the surround channels! No more guessing how to set the delay values! The remote has a 'glowing' button that you can push to light the whole thing up so you can see where you want to go on it.
Summary: I bought this for my brother and sister in law as a welcome gift to their new home. They love the sounds and the power it delivers. The only issue they had was that it didn't offer pass through so they couldnt have the TV on using the TV's speakers while the cable box was plugged into the receiver. This wasn't good for them at night time but he found a way around that with an hdmi splitter.
Summary: This is my third, and last HK product. I am having issues with the HDMI blanking out (usually with DVD sources). HK tech support is very poor. No real help at all. You are lucky to be able to ask and get answered one question a day. Looking on the net my problem is fairly common yet support claims they have never heard of it. Very disappointed! The sound is great. This replaced my Sony ES receiver that died. It sucks to watch a movie and the video just blanks out.
Summary: This unit sounds very good. I use it in a 7.1 setup with dual 8" powered subwoofers. The speakers are ceiling mounts. I had a Panasonic Elite which had good sound but was complex to set up. The Harmon Kardon AVR3600 has a much easier set up and is highly tuneable should you desire to go for optimum sound. Does tke some menu exploration and experimentation to get the best it has to give. Still easier than the Panasonic.
