Summary: Harman Kardon makes some of the best receivers in the industry. Paired with their excellent speakers you will be very happy with the audio! I've had two models of AVRs ad speakers over the years. Would never buy any other brand. The audio file reviewers don't give it enough credit for how well designed, thought out and performing these units are. The BMW of audio.
Summary: When I first bought a Harman receiver, it was after a side-by-side test with an Onkyo at twice the price. The sound was smooth, not harsh like the Onkyo. Well that receiver is in need of maintenance with the front panel lights going occassionally, but needless to sat I bought this AVR-354 with the idea of striking gold again and I was not disappointed. The sound is still silky smooth and it has additional inputs & features that my previous receiver didn't have.
Summary: I bought this unit to replace my Onkyo that I've had since 2000, which I was very happy aside from a few issues I had with one of the channels going out on occasion. This unit blows my old Onkyo out of the water!! I am only using 5 channels with Bose cubes in the rear and center, a pair of Eosones which I love and a Sony 10" powered sub. I have Dish Network(hate it) a Blu-ray player,an Xbox 360 and Wii connected to a 60" Westinghouse LCD TV.
Summary: I purchased a refurb 354 7.1 July 2011. Great audio and video performance, price point added bonus. I would not describle my set-up experience as easy, but straight forward. Out of the box to complete set-up was 1 1/2 hours for me. Must admit more time was devoted to the speaker set up, given 4 of the 8 speakers are built-in home units. Balancing the speaker levels to meet my listening expectations took some time.
Summary: I've owned a few A/V receiver over the years. I had a high end Sony ES model which finally after 10 years of service died. Wasn't cost effective to repair, and it didn't have the latest HDMI inputs. So bought a low end Sony Receiver, the SH800 model, boy it really sounded thin in comparison to my ES. So I gave it away and picked up this H/K after many weeks of digging thru forums. I have to say I'm very pleased with the overall experience. The sound.
Summary: I purchased a refurb at least two years ago and have been faithfully upgrading the firmware with each new release (well- almost). Simply put, I love the power and clarity of this thing. I have it in a 5.1 set-up with all Sony stuff SSF-7000, SA-W3800 15 inch sub, SSB3000 bookshelf and the SSCN-5000 center channel. It is in a large room hooked up to a refurbed 2007 model 60" Sony LCD rear projection TV. I got the AVR and speakers for under 6 bills.
