poor quality av receiver matches service

spiderfromearth, Amazon
8 March 2012
  • Summary: I've had this receiver for just one year and it just fizzled out. It sounded good at first with good power and sound but then started to show problems. Just a little static at first which became annoying noise coming from the center channel. After that the unit stopped recognizing commands from the remote. Using the front panel of the receiver proved useless. Contacting Harmon service center with the warranty intact was just as useless.

Does not play well with 720p

Norm Fox, Amazon
14 January 2012
  • Summary: First the good, the receiver delivered the high quality sound one would expect from Harman Kardon. It did not however play well with my 720p LG plasma TV or my 2nd generation AppleTV. After down-scaling the receiver's output to 720p so it would be visible on my 720p TV the HDMI signal still dropped out for a few seconds here and there, and about half the screen would constantly flicker video static.

Intermittent Audio and Video cut out

Vexatio "vexatio", Amazon
11 July 2011
  • Summary: I purchased this system to replace a 7.1 Pioneer A/V component receiver. This is my second HK, they have never disappointed - until now. It was just as easy to set up as my previous two receivers, plugging in speakers, HDMI, optical and RCA cables. The problems began almost immediately. The audio would cut out sporadically for a second or two, the video would do the same a short time thereafter, only for longer periods. Customer service... ah, what an experience.

Harman

An Amazon Customer, Amazon
6 June 2011
  • Summary: It's MORE THA DIFFICULT to install, the menu to do it is so primitive. It's like from the stone age. I been trying to intal it for more than three weeks at no avail, and still trying. Up to now, I have done it partially... Only the radio -and it comes in the AVR-, the TV imposible to install, the DVD I did no even try to install, I don't want to try the rest. The users manual, it's so simple it's pitifull, less than basic.

Great.... when it works!

Peter B., J&R
12 March 2011
  • Summary: I installed this beauty in 1 hour and I enjoyed great sound while watching stunning movie UNSTOPPABLE and a Nets NBA game on YES in Dolby 5.1 Sound capability is absolutely amazing but the unit stopped functionning after 1 day. Everything is cable-managed properly and connected to power-surge protection in my living room so I suspect the product was defective before I opened the box.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Thundering Bass
  • Cons: Poor Interface

Not for the average home.

Daivarie, J&R
8 December 2010
  • Summary: I use this to watch movies, mostly Blu-Ray. This system is not a plug-n-play system, so if that's what you're looking for, look elsewhere. This requires several hours just to get things hooked up and not all items will work right away, until you spend several more hours going through the setup screens. Great sound once all is hooked up right, but clumsy remote. Sub menu's make you search for analog items like Ipod's and such before listening to them.
  • Pros: Clear Sound
  • Cons: Confusing Remote, Difficult To Setup

A Piece of Junk

Tippy6, Amazon
3 December 2010
  • Summary: I bought this item back in March, and had trouble from the start. My fault for not returning it sooner, I know. When watching a DVD (Blu-Ray or otherwise) the picture and sound would occasionally cut out completely, for several seconds. Sometimes when this happens, the "blackout" lasts for several minutes. Not much fun watching a movie when I have to keep my finger on the pause button of the DVD remote to stop the disc when the picture cuts off.
