Summary: Here is some more info: Been through 3 AVR 247's. All made clicking sound from all 5.1 speakers/channels when DVD or HD/DVR paused or audio input turned off. Returned two to dealers but eventually went through HK's warranty. Ended up with a 347 at no extra charge due to stock issues. Long story but you get the idea. Be careful about buying one of these. It sounds great but it has some problems.
Summary: I purchased this receiver to replace my old Sony 625 receiver. The main reason for replacement was I purchased an HDTV and have 2 HDMI appliances that I wanted to attach to my TV and run 5.1 audio through. This product met those requirements and produces great sounding audio, with a couple of annoyances. 1. Switching between inputs can take up to 30 seconds at times 2. The two appliances I purchased this for can cause issues with the receiver.
Summary: I moved to the 247 from a 6-year old Denon entry-level AVR. The sound improvement is noticable, and strong considering its low watts/channel. Music is clear and crisp matched with the HKTS-18 5.1 Channel Speaker System. The first test media I played was Planet Earth on Blu-Ray and Blade Runner on HD-DVD. Both made for an amazing, theater like experience in 7.1. I then tried Call of Duty 4 on PS3 which sounded equally good. 480i/p is very nicely upscaled to 720p or 1080i.
excellent sound, but 1080p video provides SPARKLES

Summary: Harman Kardon AVR 247 Home Theater Receiver with iPod Control and HDMI connectivity Sonds amazing, but please be aware that the majority or ALL of these units show sparkles on the screen when you are feeding 1080p video through the unit. Search AVS forum for more info.
Summary: I chose a HK because sound is critical to me more so than the video stuff but it has a very cumbersom interface that you see onscreen after working out the dredful instructions - I suppose the sound is good but it is hard to tell becuase configuring the speakers is difficult too.
Summary: I bought this from best buy to upgrade from my Onkyo 501. The upconversion to 720p from my Sony 480p dvd player is great with the video processing. Sound is clear. Power is good. Could not get my multiroom speakers to work properly after checking all connections, the manual. My 200 dollar onkyo receiver sounds just as good. Everything was automatic. The onkyo has A and B connections for an extra pair of speakers and work perfectly.
