Not completely impressed

ScottR, Crutchfield
9 February 2014
  • Summary: The Denon AVR-X3000 processes sound wonderfully, setup very easy however the unit is simply underpowered and overall sound quality suffers. The automatic setup microphone works however removed all low end from the sound mix. Adjusting the graphic equalizer is very cumbersome requiring several steps. Settings for equalizer do not save for each selection such as movie or music. If you adjust equalizer, that's how it stays no matter what field you select.
  • Pros: Easy setup
  • Cons: Cumbersome to adjust, underpowered.

Your receiver is a computer - with all that entails

LarryB, Crutchfield
21 November 2013
  • Summary: Astounding sound. The Audessey calibration with my decent Polk 5.1 speaker setup is amazing. Really impressive, and I'm a sound engineer in a former life. Good stuff. Problem to recognize - it's a computer. It has an IP address. It has software. It has a blue screen of death, which isn't blue and isn't a screen. But on several occasions, I've had the unit playing from my Mac's Airplay source.
  • Pros: Sound and Audessey calibration, input and output options
  • Cons: Network features turn out to be a liability, when they are not working right.

Need more speaker terminals!

Scott Carduner, Amazon

  • Summary: There are not enough speaker terminals for 7.1 + Zone 2. You have to chose between surround speakers and Zone 2.

Terrible product

  • Summary: The red blinking light shut downs that go with this system are annoying. But, a hard reset seems to help. I would do my research because many people are having problems with the new AVR models. Just do your homework.

Good but web user interface need work

BikinDutchman, ABT Electronics

  • Summary: Overall I am very happy with this product because of the ease of use and excellent sound quality. I really recommend the Front Width option instead of using the surround back channels. It is now finally possible to unplug the power cord. I developed a grudge because of the tedious firmware update (4600-4916-6484 to 4600-2226-7552). And, after I selected the web update I got a request for a file (that I do not have). There was no more escape but pulling the plug.
  • Pros: Audyssey Dsx, Front Height Or Width, Good On-screen Menu, Less Legacy Inputs, reasonable price, Simpler Remote, Solid Amplifier Circuiits, Zone 2 Hdmi
  • Cons: Clunky Firmware Update, No Bitstreaming Indicator, Poor Support Site, Support Does Not Respond

So far so good...

Tom P., FutureShop
3 November 2013
  • Summary: My first impressions of this Denon unit are not great. There is no support for a wireless dongle, although you will read on many sites that there is from people who clearly didn't try to use one. The ipod playback is excruciating. Moving from one song to the next takes about three seconds, which is really slow when you are flipping through tracks on a ipod classic, thats if it changes at all.
