Summary: An AVR 987 is the same as an AVR 2807 with a different front plate - same functionality with a different number. This is my second Denon AV Receiver and the only reason for upgrading is that I now have HDMI based video equipment It took about 15 minutes to extract the old system amd insert the new - with most of the time spent replacing cables - three RGB cables with one HDMI - and wrestling the older, smaller, lighter unit out and the newer, heavier, bigger system into...
Summary: I was very happy with this receiver until it came time to upgrade my speakers and I pulled out my old Denon 2-channel receiver to do some testing. I was blown away by how good my new speakers sounded when hooked up to my old receiver and I was quite psyched at the prospect of hooking them up to my AVR-987. So I did some switching around and hooked the speakers I was thinking of discarding up to my old receiver and surprise(!
Bang for the buck does not do this receiver justice
3 November 2008
Summary: This receiver does everything, and I mean everything I wanted a receiver to do and more. The sound quality is flawless. The capabilities of it are so numerous that unless you actually read the manual you will not do yourself justice. The options are so daunting. I would like to challenge anyone to surpass his needs in even the most demanding home settings. Being able to power my 2nd room speakers directly from it without an outboard amp is a welcomed option.
Summary: Once you figure out the remote the rest is awesome. I would recommend this receiver to anyone whom likes true to sound. The movies are like saving money and not going to the theater with crowds. I would like the remote to be different in many ways its kinda like a puzzle to change things from one to another. But the sounds makes the work all worth it. Had no problem with my delivery date came on time and all was well done.
Summary: All features one could want. Ability to except all forms of input. Excellent sound; well balanced. An audio-philes dream. Lots of features, so takes a bit to understand functioning of remote. Careful -- lots of power. Kids blew my outdoor speakers.
Summary: This unit will meet most anyones expectations for a powerful HT experience. I agree with the other reviewer that setup etc.. is somewhat tasking. The unit has virtually any feature you might want. The downside and warning to anyone is for you not to expect this to do up conversion as you would expect from a dvd player. Some might assume that it means it will take an input and convert it up to 1080p/i. It won't.
Brute of an amp with highly sophisticated front end

Summary: Denon is near the top of consumer electronics, and this shows why. The 7.1 amp section blows away Sony, Pioneer, etc.: cleaner and more detailed because, essentially, it delivers more current to the speakers. On top of this is a very sophisticated A/V control center: pre-amp, tuner, decoder, etc. Multiple inputs (HDMI for the vid fans, plus RIAA--MM and high-output MC--for the vinyl crowd) allow extremely flexible systems and effortless switching.
