Pretty much as I expected, was a great deal for what i spent.

Summary: Nice receiver. Performs powerfully as expected. Replaced an older 3000ES series Sony that was a bit cantankerous. I will say the picture enhancement ability from the Sony was better but still over all pleased with the Denon. I also noticed it doesn't create as much heat as the Sony did.
Summary: Works well, no issues with the hardware. Only caveat is that it took a while for me to figure out how to set it up. The setup process is not very intuitive, remote control is not intuitive either.
Summary: All in all the reciever is a solid piece. It's the 3rd Denon reciever I've purchased and there are some inherent issues that run through them. The most annoying is trying to make head or tails of the owners manual. It stinks on ice. Combine the owners manual and the 1980's style OSD and you can get frustrated quickly. I would have rated the reciever a 5 star but these two things knocked it down.
Great while it lasted ... which wasn't long enough

Summary: I bought this receiver in December of 2008. I did not expect to be back on the market for a receiver in December 2010, but here I am. The HDMI card has failed, and it's a $350 part (plus $100 for labor). Two years is insufficient for moderate usage of a high-end receiver. Stay away.
Summary: This makes a really nice center piece to build your home theater system with. I got mine in December 2008. It is very easy to set up and if one needs the directions, they are well written. Loads of inputs on the back!! The Denon AVR-888 has a built in program that calculates all of the speaker distances and delay algorithms to achieve the highest possible performance. It even evaluates the room size and echo.
Summary: All i can say is My husband loves it i know this for a fact because i pulled up the other day to our house and i could here the music outside with the windows and door shut. He keeps reading the Manuel and playing and as he says " It dose everything" So the Denon Receiver is wonderful.

Summary: I'm not a home theater expert by any stretch of the imagination. When planning our home theater, we borrowed ideas from the setups of 2 friends. One of my friends had an older model that is similar to this one so I decided to purchase this one. Am very happy with the purchase. We are using this system to take the input from our Playstation, iMac, cable TV, DVD and radio and output the video to a 720p projector in our home theater room and speakers in 2 zones.
Summary: Denon AVR 888 brings a whole new awlsome digital sound comparing to my previous analag receiver. Since I saw many Review comments that the instruction and the remote features can be confusing, so I spent a little time ahead to read the manual and familiarize with the remote and the receiver features. Then I spent a little time on the surround sound set up but the outcome is rewarding.
Summary: Denon AVR-888 provides great sound due to its robust multi power supplies. HDMI carries sound. Built-in upconversion can be selected to up-convert all analog video to 1080p with no noticeable color distrotion. Set up is not as difficult per some reviews if you follow the manual step-by-step. It is my first Denon and the 888 is now discontinued and replaced by a new model. I bought it from Amazon at a great sale price.
Summary: This item appears to take a rocket scientist to figure out the instructions and to setup in operational mode. Thus, in remains in the box on the shelf until further help arrives. I had a helper, who is quite able in electronics, who could not get it workings either. I do not recommend this receiver for the average person to purchase.
