Summary: I bought it because it was cheap with a minor problem so far it seems to work good. The only downside is sometimes it switches to headphone mode and shuts off the speakers other then that it pushes my Cerwin vega DX-9's and my Cerwin Vega Subwoofer nicely also from what I have tested on full surround sound with the Cerwin vegas and the MTS surround speakers it seems to be a great sound for movies. I can say for this is better then sony by far power wise.
Summary: Great system. Pushes 90 watts for music listening with excellent frequency response. Using 7.1 surround sound. The included testing unit to set up system actually works. I am sure that I am not using all the capabilities of this unit. Very happy with purchase. You can buy higher priced units if you need the features but this is all that I need.
Summary: Worked great for 2 1/2 years, but no power to the speakers anymore. Bummer, because my last Denon receiver lasted 12 years...UPDATE: So I had some dust or dirt in the headphone jack that set the receiver to headphone mode thus not sending sound to speakers. I little compressed air into the speaker jack and now she works just fine.
Summary: Let me tell you this avr is a fine one. Yes, you can get a better sound from DENON but, and I say but for this price it's a GEM and will give you a sound that's very close to the more expensive DENON at a fraction of the price ! Excellent sound CD or HD sound, gets only warm to the touch, like to play loud without a loss or aggresive change in the sound. Very Neutral sound, on the warm side, better than the 5-6 years ago denon that Sounded Sterile and cold.
Summary: After 8 months the receiver lost all sound on allinputs. I sent it back to Denon and 6 weeks later, it was returned. The same problem recurred within 2 weeks and by now Denon had switched to an independent repair service, Panurgy. Again the This time the repair has already taken almost 6 weeks, and I have no receiver. When I called, they couldn't find the receiver with their own authorization number as they had given the same number to two people.
Summary: The Denon AVR790 replaced my 11 yr. old HTR-5230 Yamaha home theater AV and has relegated a 4 yr. old Sony home theater system to our bedroom. I bought the Denom AVR790 unit because I had heard how good Denon AV units are. Here is what my experience has been so far. SOUND Pros: 1) The sound you hear is only as good as your speakers. My initial Denon/speakers hookup was done using my old Yamaha speakers and subwoofer while I waited for my new speakers to arrive.
Solid receiver...video upconversion did not meet expectations

Summary: This in my first 'real' receiver. I owned a Phillips receiver in the past. In terms of sound quality, this receiver pumps out good clean sound. It is hooked up to a JBL CS680 5.1 speaker set. Setup was straight forward and was not as difficult as many reviews suggest. The remote is ok but I'm still learning its functions and should master them soon. What was a bit of a disappointment for me was the quality of the upscaling of analog video.
Denon AVR 790 7.1 channel Receiver for home theater use
6 July 2010
Summary: The Denon AVR 790 7.1 ties together my PC-home theater so that I get the maximum enjoyment out of it. I decided to buy off Ebay because of the immense savings and value. I would recommend this unit to anyone who loves surround sound, and has a home theater.
Summary: This receiver is awesome! The sound quality is crystal clear, and the on screen display makes adjustments a breeze. I run a media center computer into this receiver and it works great. The built in video processor up scales my standard definition movies into 720p or 1080p hi definition. The audio processor can restore my audio files from the compressed wma format that I use, to make the sound quality superb.
Summary: What an upgrade from my previous system- excellent surround sound with the Audyssey EQ. A great value for the sound alone, but also has upscaling/upconverting Analog to HDMI and HDMI to HDMI, to 1080p. My 7.1 is set up with surrounds in the back, but you have the option of front height speakers instead. Hard to set up if you use the manual alone, so make sure you get Batpig's on-line guide (search "Batpigs Denon") and also read through the AVS forum owner's thread.
