Excellent Upgrade

Joseph Martinez, Amazon
9 June 2009
  • Summary: Wow, this is a nice piece of equipment, a steal at this price really. I'm upgrading from an old Pioneer VSX-D711 and while the quality of sound on this unit is clearly better (albeit the Pioneer certainly wasn't poor in this regard) the more complex setup options and rather poor menu and remote make accessing many of the nicer features of this receiver somewhat bewildering at first.

  • Summary: Comments about Denon AVR789 A/V Receiver: This is my third Denon receiver, having replaced an AVR-2800 which has lasted me for years. This product is easily capable of bring out the best audio from Blu Ray disks and the 7.1 is simply outstanding. I have never had a problem with any Denon product, and hopefully this one will be the same.

Excellent Receiver

ltousent, Ebay
8 February 2009
  • Summary: This receiver handles all of the high end sounds which is a big plus. I just wished it had a couple more HDMI inputs. The fact that you can enjoy high end sounds with the video is a plus. What I mean is that I still have a 1080i 65" TV. I have the HDMIs connected and the component cable also connected. It get the best possible picture for my TV and the absloute best audio. I just finished watching "Bangkok Dangerous" with DTS HD Master Audio in 7.1 surround sound.

Denon 789 - awesome

Roberta Bond "sptsfan63", Amazon
6 February 2009
  • Summary: Love the receiver, hated the set up. After we got the hang of it the set up did go faster. A little confusing with the naming of the inputs (had to use VCR for the DirecTV connection) but the receiver is well worth the money. I searched the internet for advice on the set up and it helped tremendously.

AVR 789

Amazon Customer, Amazon
18 January 2009
  • Summary: I bought this receiver about a week ago and got it all connected and functioning in no time. However, like other reviewers have said, the operations manual is poorly organized and hard to follow. In parts it lacks explanation and assumes the reader knows why or why he would not want a particular setting instead of explaining why he would or wouldn't want it.
