Summary: People keep receivers for years, given the not-insignificant investment required in both the receiver and the associated speakers. If you are going to have a piece of consumer electronics for a good chunk of your life, you need to have confidence that you can fix problems with the equipment and be able to deal with differing configurations of the equipment. The AVR-789 makes this nearly impossible, at least for English speakers.
Summary: I was forewarned. I bought this unit after reading many reviews that said it was difficult to set up and had a poor manual. No kidding. I'm a very technical person, engineer etc. I'm the guy everyone calls when they can't get their stuff to work. I'm still struggling with this thing. In this century, there is no excuse for an interface as primitive and impossible to understand as this one.
