Summary: Has all the surround sound that you would want and more. I have two 15" Altec Lansing woofers and 2 JBL Array BG Bi-Radial®-horn compression drivers and has power to spare. This setup is the 7.1 surround with some satellites to fill in the gaps.
Summary: Everybody I know who has Denon has had Denon for a long time. Their products (including this one) are great and built to last. It was great knowing I didn't need to buy an "extended warranty" as it wasn't going to fail in two years.
Summary: I have had the AVR-788 for about three years. The problem started about 3 months ago with crackling sound from the front speakers. Slowly, the 5.1 died. All standard efforts (reset, power cycle, factory settings, etc) to resuscitate the surround failed. I am left with a regular stereo receiver.
Summary: Superior sound quality and surround processor, plenty of power, easiest setup ever. Setup is done out of the box, yes this system can do so many things, but the default from the factory works on its own. No configuration is needed.
Summary: I love this receiver. It has all of the connections that I needed and it works well with my RF remote! I got this for a great price, but it took 3 weeks to get it shipped from DakMart. I did not pay for express shipping though.
Summary: Pros Nice Features HDMI 1.3 Clean Power Auto setup worked well. Cons Manual is a little short some times on setup information. Manual setup is a lot of work. Speakers in 7.1 config take all the power. Overall 8 out of 10 Great quality sound. Could use some more HDMI inputs as only 2.
Summary: Great sounding receiver. Best price on the internet too. The manual is terrible though. Not even the Denon engineers understand it. [...]. Only thing I dislike about this receiver is that it does not have HDMI pass through.
Summary: Very frustrating to set up. Manual difficult to understand. System had annoying feature of going to mute each time system turned on and at first I thought system was not working. Sound level with system set for HDTV and then switch to CD was ear shattering high.
