Summary: I purchased a Denon AVR-3808CI with high expectations. The unit itself is about 4 years old and out of warranty. The unit had historically performed well as expected until this week. My son was playing Playstation through the unit and all of a sudden, the sound cut out in the middle of his game and has never returned. The Denon folks tried to troubleshoot the issue and finally said I needed to take the unit in for service.
Summary: Short and sweet: Excellent sound. This with Rel and paradigm 300's makes records a joy. Networking is fantastic and the unit does not run too hot, especially compared to Onkyo. Did I mention I like the sound produced with this? Menu's are a pain and your wife will hate it. The remote's are useless. Buy a logitech harmony. My unit's power supply failed after ~1.5 years.

Was puzzled for awhile whether it was the Denon Receiver -or- my DirecTV Satellite receiver, but upon total failure of my Denon I discovered my DirecTV receiver is just fine. While Denon products are nice (i.e. lots of features), there is a steep learning curve and having had mine only 2 years before it rolled over dead (i.e.
Summary: I bought this receiver after owning several higher end units. I've spent a lot more and they just didn't last long enough to justify the high price. As soon as the warranty ran out, they crashed hard. I loved the sound, but I was willing to make sacrifices to not have to pay very much. I'm a little shocked to see all the very high reviews, so I decided to post to give the full story on this unit. Please try to listen and use this unit prior to buying.
