Summary: If you're going for amazing sound on a budget - this is a great choice. It may not have hdmi switching or support the new codecs that need hdmi bandwidth, but an optical connection with this receiver sounds amazing. In the last 7 years I have had 2 denons and one sony. I was never really ecstatic about the sony so I bought a Denon 1601(entry level 5.1 receiver) - huge sound improvement.
Summary: The older much cleaner denons like this one makes the new ones sound like sony if you have very good high end speakers you can drive this receiver at 100 percent of the volume and there no distortion that is noticeable .only difference in this and the 1500 dollar new equal is the lack of hdmi, but there are enough optical and other dig hook ups that you would still be proud to play this for all you friends
Summary: Have not tested this particular unit yet as had a problem with the seller but have heard before and they are great units. Match with good speakers and sub and it will give you full experience of your movies. Switch for stereo and you also have great sound experience. Some of these older units are better then the new ones.
Summary: I first bought the 3801 and 6 months later they came out with the 3802 with DPLII. Well I easily sold my receiver second and and went and bought the new one. Wow DPLII is great it makes watching TV all the worth while.
Summary: Excellent receiver!! Very Warm and UNcolored sound. The remote is also very inviting and nice feel to the buttons and it controls EVERYTHING besdies JUST the receiver. Great receiver all in all!
