Summary: I did lots of research before buying this but I was somewhat biased for having owned Denon products for 25 years without a single problem. I finally had to upgrade from my German bought 220V old Denon stereo because my TV only had optical audio out and I did not want to pay $100 for a converter.
Summary: I got my AVR-1612 new for $287. Paired with my PS3 and my Pioneer SP-PK51FS 5.1-Channel Speaker Package the sound and picture quality is amazing. I now have a real home theater system. Could not ask for anything more. No issues what so ever. Sound keeps getting better everyday.
Summary: OK, it is only 5.1.....so what. I grabbed this thing on a whim. I could not be happier. Set up is a snap with the on screen menus. I wish the Manual EQ had a better interface, but once you set it, you are good to go for how you like to listen. you can have several pre-sets.
Summary: For Christmas I received the BD versions of LOTR & Star Wars. I wasn't about to insult these movies with the speakers from my HDTV. My Onkyo Home Theater Receiver shorted out after a juice spill in the TV room several months prior. I had this receiver for several years and was very happy with it.
Summary: I bought this unit to improve the sound output from DVD and BD movies, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my music collection, stored on iPod, also sounds much better than before.
