Summary: I am very disappointed with the Denon AVR-1609. First disappointment, no sound with HDMI. 2nd disappointment, Dynamic Volume Control doesn't reduce volume spikes when commercials come on as stated. 3rd disappointment and the icing on the cake of disappointment, It dies just 2 months after the guarantee from Crutchfield ends and they had no consideration at all with replacing or repairing.
Summary: I've had this for a couple of years now. I've been using Denon decks and receivers for YEARS and I honestly don't see the point of using any other brand. They are simply the best. Well....Besides Bose Wave (big or small, doesn't matter, they are both the best - you wouldn't believe the way they sound. The acoustics don't even seem possible. It's like, where IS that bass coming from???) but that's a different animal, lol. Anyway....
Summary: Nice receiver for the price. Two zones. Speakers A & B. However, my first one went out three years after purchase. Bought another refurbished one from ebay. Work's great, for now. Hopefully, the first one was a fluke.
Summary: I purchased this receiver refurbished, otherwise I would have gotten a higher model number that converted all the video sources to the HDMI signal. When I hook up a DVD player or laptop to the unit, I also have to connect a separate audio cable. The HDMI carries sound to the TV (but not from my laptop, DVI to HDMI cable), and I can choose the audio source I want to come out of the speakers connected to the receiver.
Summary: I had an Onkyo before this that eventually went into satefy mode...so I decided to upgrade. I have a 52" samsung along with a Polk Surroundbar 50, so was looking for something that would easily handle that (Prologic II) and my 10" polk sub. The unit is very clean and looks great with all the other things I have. The setup was a little tough, took me a couple hours, but I am not audiophile...probably setup audio equipment just a few times in my life.
Summary: The denon AVR-1609 is a great A/V reciever. Some people do not like the fact that the audio HDMI portion is just a pass-thru but I like it because I only use fiber optic for my audio(the 1609 has 2). You can up-grage to a different model but it is not cost effective when you can buy a toslink cable for $4. All in all this is a great product.
Summary: After purchasing this item, I read the reviews. I can tell you that after reading them I tried to cancel this item through Amazon on-line before it shipped. I was truly dissappointed that I could not cancel through Amazon but only through the shipper "Crutchfield". After speaking with "Crutchfield", I must admit they have great technical assistance.
Summary: Was just looking for a basic receiver to replace an old one that died. It was just for some speakers I have outside & in a formal dining area. I've already got 2 pretty nice Denon's for the 2 home theater areas in my house, and love them. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this one on sale for just over $200 with free delivery. Delivery was quicker than promised and it came in perfect condition. Crutchfield was excellent.
