  • Pros: Excellent driving experience; great graphics; beautiful and varied scenery; sufficient variety of vehicles and customization options.
  • Cons: Far-from-original concept; terrible replay value; multiplayer play required to get too many unlockables; some scripted elements like roadblocks are too predictable.

Need for Speed: The Run

GameTrailers
14 November 2011
  • Excerpt: While Need for Speed’s release calendar has never slowed down, it’s been a full three years since we’ve seen a game from the main team at EA’s Black Box studio. Does this cinematic road trip have that new car smell or does it stink like a drive past a dairy farm? Jack Rourke’s in trouble with the mob. Big enough trouble to get himself nearly killed in a car crusher.

  • Summary: Firebrand Games might have previously unleashed a stinker on us with a certain NASCAR game, but with Need for Speed: The Run, the studio's proven that it's definitely still got what it takes to give us hours of portable racing enjoyment. While flawed in a few areas, the superb online experience and high speed action strapped into the little cartridge here packs enough thrills to satisfy any 3DS owner with an insistence for speed.

Need for Speed: The Run PS3 Review

DarkZero
15 December 2011
  • Excerpt: This year’s holiday Need for Speed ( NFS ) title has a lot to live up to after EA allowed the guys are Criterion Games to make the brilliant NFS: Hot Pursuit . Black Box has the task of trying to beat that, but their last NFS game was the somewhat disappointing NFS: Undercover .

Need for Speed : The Run

Need for Speed: The Run Review

Nintendo-Online
11 May 2012
